Background Checks: Why They Suck (And Why You Should Do Them Anyway)

Background checks are a necessary (but often frustrating) part of the staffing process. In this candid and entertaining session, an experienced background screening professional will pull back the curtain on why delays and hurdles happen, from cumbersome client requirements (like verifying 30-year-old high school diplomas) to inefficiencies in the process itself (like asking court clerks in remote counties to pull criminal record files from boxes stacked next to the microwave in the break room). Attendees will learn practical workarounds that Consumer Reporting Agencies (CRAs) use to keep things moving, hear eye-opening case studies of serious records that could have put employers at serious risk and scratch their heads over some of the most bizarre background screening situations they might run into. This session will help staffing professionals better understand background check challenges and how to overcome them – and why, despite their flaws, they’re essential to protecting your business and your clients.
